Many Dakota who had taken no part in the war were marched to the concentration camp below Fort Snelling. Angry, armed mobs attacked the marchers. Those that survived the march and the concentration camp were loaded onto steamboats and exiled from Minnesota. Today, descendants commemorate those on the forced by recreating the march.
