(gentle music) - You do often hear people say, I moved down to Minneapolis or St. Paul to kind of express a new part of myself, but I don't think that's the whole story.
And in some ways the community solidarity of life in smaller town Minnesota are still really important for people.
(gentle music) - 20 years ago, some men in this area started a men's circle, and so with our five year anniversary of that men's circle, we thought, well, we've stuck around for five years, maybe we should do something special.
So that was the first east central Minnesota GLBT pride, which we called Picnic in the Park.
(gentle music) We wanted to bring awareness, acceptance that we're here, we're just from all walks of life, we're like everybody else, and I think people are coming around.
