Currently, the tallest dam in the world is jinping-1 in Sichuan, China.
It's 1,000 feet or 305 meters tall.
The tallest dam in the United States is the Oroville dam on the Feather River in California.
At 770 feet, it's forty feet taller than Hoover dam and is earth-filled rather than concrete.
The Three Gorges dam in China generates the most electricity of any dam in the world.
The deepest man made reservoir behind a dam is Lake Kariba on the border between Zambia and Zimbabwe.
And the longest dam in the world is the Hirakud dam in India.
At 16.8 miles or 27 kilometers in length, the Hirakud is so long, that there are stores along the road that run on top of the dam.
There are an estimated 845,000 human made dams in the world, not counting local, agricultural dams.
