Marcus Cederström, Community Curator of Nordic-American Folklore at UW-Madison, discusses what life was like for single Swedish women who immigrated to the Midwest between 1881 and 1920. The women often got jobs in domestic service or through contacts with other Swedish women who recommended the immigrants to their bosses.
